Thank you for visiting this online portfolio of my work. *Disclaimer* I refuse to talk in the third person with regards to my About, as I believe it to be too disconnected between myself and the reader.
My name is Jaime Torres, and I am appreciative that you have decided to see what my work consists of! I work in the field using both contemporary and traditional formats of digital and film. I enjoy shooting film photography a little more than digitally for the innate quality that film has, as well as the tactile quality that film has. Digital doesn't really exist until you print it, while film is there in your hands for your admiration. As a Getty Images selected photo contributor, my style is "Jaime-esque". It's vague I realize, however to put what I do into a very specific style, a niche, is too limited in interpretation and approach. By approach, I mean how I approach it. Some people only work doing street photography, some people only work shooting commercial landscapes such as fast food joints, and other aspects of commercialism. That is not me, because I believe it to be too stifling to do, or to be labeled a certain style. As Kierkegaarde has said, "Once you label me you negate me".
However, the creative process for me is quite simple. I'm a naturally curious person, and often times I find myself asking why, how, where, when, what, who etc. I believe this curiosity of mine feeds into my artwork in photography. Essentially, I want to know more about something, or I have an idea and I want to see how that idea translates into the camera. I liken it much to speaking with a person (which is the subject matter or idea) and getting to know them. You get to know the person by engaging with that person and asking questions. In return, they answer my question.

What people are saying.
"jaime...im taken aback.the one with the chair hits me because is has a dream like state...its very sort of, other worldly. the texture of the wood and its own pattern lend to a further textural feeling but what i like best about it is how you got a sun burst off each and every chair and without the usual blown out quality of those types of reflections.....it just looks like its in water, kind of like a lost, forbidden place...know what i mean? and the hanging light in the frame is just the cherry ontop for me".
"i simply LOVE the one with the lamp post (A World As We, 2nd column 3rd from bottom)...its fanf*****gtastic"
"I got a spiritual feeling when I saw this pic (Achilles bottom right image) and it was as though I was with God".
"What I like about most of your work is it's mysterious, carries its own gravitas, thought provoking and interesting, even if you dont know why while viewing it".
I checked out your web site and I think you are an amazing artist and photographer. You also seem to be a deep thinker, as well as an "outside the box" kind of guy".
